Our Lady of Bright Mount Church

This project is remodel of an existing sanctuary. A new venetian plaster ceiling extends from the top of a stained glass window above the narthex down the length of the nave, and then penetrates the roof to create a new skylight. Finally, the ceiling flows down the back of the sanctuary wall, reverently cradling the painting that is the namesake of the church. The inverted ceiling hides a new ventilation system while reflecting light from existing stained glass windows. Natural light from a concealed skylight above the Sanctuary compliments and enhances the ephemeral yet inspired qualities of the church. The composition of the new ceiling unites the congregation beneath it, and focuses their attention towards the altar, the nexus of their shared experience of worship.
