Situated in an entertainment zone with hotels, cinemas, Club Cinch combines an indoor outdoor café / bar, a stepped amphitheater for cabarets, and a nightclub on the forth story that overlooks the city beyond and acts as a beacon to energize the district. In order to fit a dense program on a tight site, a simple urban block was “cinched” to create active abrasions among the various programs. The “cinch” distorts the urban block, creating a cantilevered condition at the portal to a new pedestrian street that accentuates the public realm. An outdoor café is shielded from rain and sun by the cantilevered amphitheater above and the canted form lures pedestrians into the building while energetic events radiate above.
