Billowing gently over the heads of the congregation, a new Venetian plaster ceiling glides from the top of the stained glass window above the narthex, down the length of the nave, penetrates the roof to create a new skylight, and finally flows down the back of the sanctuary wall, reverently cradling the painting that is the namesake of the church.  The new ceiling complements the graceful curves of the robes worn by the Virgin Mary and Christ child in the painting, as well as echoing the mystery and majesty of the church in the natural light that pours through the concealed skylight above the Sanctuary.  The composition of the new ceiling unites the congregation beneath it, and focuses their attention on the shared experience of worship.
